Five Fun Fall Vacation Ideas

It’s coming up on that time of year again when the temperature starts to cool down, and the leaves begin to change. If you have any vacation time you are looking to spend, the fall is the best time of year to get out and forget about the stresses of your daily life. Getting back to nature is one of the best ways to relax and blow off some steam. Many of these activities are not very expensive either, so you won’t have to shell out a lot of cash for an epic vacation and that way you will have more to spend on anything interesting you want to do along the way. Stick with us, and we’ll tell you all about the best places to go to experience the fall as it was intended!

1) Take a Road Trip

Taking a road trip might seem silly or even juvenile depending on your age, but getting behind the wheel and cruising down the open road with not a care in the world, can be a very refreshing experience. Hop in your ride and head wherever the asphalt leads you. Driving through the northeastern states is one of the most relaxing things you can experience this time of year. Bring along a camera so that you can capture any wildlife that crosses your path, or snap a few pictures of the stunning colors of Autumn that seem to paint the leaves in the forests around you, but remember, pull off the side of the road before taking any pictures!

2) Attend an Away Game

This activity is pretty self-explanatory, although likely impossible this year due to the Pandemic. It’s normally the perfect time of year to grab a cooler full of cold ones, a car full of your buddies, and head to an away game to support your favorite team. Be it College or Professional football, this experience must involve tailgating in enemy territory. Heading out to one of these games can even be part of your road trip experience if you want!

3) Go Fly Fishing

You might notice in our list, that all five of the activities can be planned together if you want, it all depends on your personal interests, and how long you want to get away from it all. Fly fishing is a sport that we grew up with, watching our fathers tie new lures in the basement, or walking out into a river with his waders pulled high. Standing in the middle of a river, with a stunning forest in full fall colors, is one of the most peaceful experiences anyone can have in nature. If you aren’t really sure where to travel to get the most out of your fly fishing adventure, try the Green River in Utah, or head out to the Upper Colorado River in Colorado for some of the best fly fishing a man could ask for.

4) Go Hunting

Another activity that was one of our favorites to participate in with our fathers as a child was hiking out into the mountains, rifle in hand, and silently scanning the terrain for our prey. Hunting is not only an exciting activity to partake in with your buddies, or all on your own, it can also be incredibly relaxing. When planning where to take your hunting party, however, you have to consider what sort of game you want to hunt for. If you are looking for a big game like bear, or moose, you will want to look at heading out to Alaska, which has some stunning areas to hunt. Perhaps you want to try your hand at hunting pheasants, or your hunting hound is itching for some action, head out to Kansas, Iowa, or Illinois for some of the best opportunities to bag the bird. Most hunters want to head out into the wilderness to track down a whitetail to bring home, if this is the case, you’ll want to travel to Kentucky, Georgia, or even Louisiana. If you don’t have it in the budget to go out of state, check to see what game is accessible for hunting in your area.

5) Go Camping

Camping is another activity on the list that can be combined with nearly any other. Whether you want to curl up in a sleeping bag on the ground and peer up at the clear night sky or rent a cabin for a romantic weekend with your best girl, camping is one of those activities that can refresh the mind, body, and spirit. One of our personal favorite places to go camping is in the Allegheny National Forest. There are plenty of locations that you can rent cabins, or stake a tent down, depending on the kind of trip you are looking to have. There are several great lookouts in the area that overlook the Allegheny Reservoir, which is beautiful in the fall as it is surrounded by rich Autumn colors. You can even head down to the Reservoir to rent a boat of varying sizes to head out on the water for a day of fishing or exploration.
