Trail Boss Package Added to 2022 Chevy Colorado
Taking a page from the Chevy Silverado playbook, the 2022 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss adds more off-road style and gear to amp up its off-road chops.
The Trail Boss package specifically adds a 1-inch suspension-leveling kit, front and mid-vehicle skid plates, 17-inch ZR2 accessory wheels in black and blacked out Colorado and Chevrolet bow tie emblems and red tow hooks. Plus, the front air dam is removed.
Basically, you get a leveled version of the Colorado with more protection, better wheels, blacked-out badges and you don’t have to worry about removing the annoying air dam yourself. Win-win-win-win!
Oh and red tow hooks. What’s not to like?
The Trail Boss package will be available on LT and Z71 models and will be dealer installed.
Other 2022 Chevy Colorado changes
Speaking of the LT and Z71 models, they get a new safety package option with forward collision alert and lane departure warning. Plus, rear park assist is standard on Z71 and is included in the package for LT. A standard rear-vision camera with HD view is also now available on LT and standard on the Z71 and ZR2 pickups.
For infotainment and connectivity, an 8-inch diagonal system is available on the LT, Z71 and ZR2 with optional navigation. Also, there is built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, billed monthly separately, and available Amazon Alexa.
Fast facts on 2022 Chevy Colorado
The 2022 Chevy Colorado comes in 4 trim levels: WT, LT, Z71 and ZR2. It has a max payload of 1,550 pounds with the crew cab with the 3.6-liter V-6 and a max trailering of 7,700 pounds with the 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine.
There are three engine choices: 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder mated to a 6-speed automatic (200 horsepower/181 pound-feet of torque), 3.6-liter V-6 mated to an 8-speed auto (308 horsepower, 275 pound-feet of torque) and the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel mated to a 6-speed automatic (181 horsepower, 369 pound-feet of torque). The 2.8-liter Duramax diesel also returns the best fuel economy with 30 MPG on the highway in 2WD models. All other engines are around 18-20 MPG in the city and 24-25 MPG on the highway.
In the bed, there are 13 tie-down point, a standard locking tailgate and a remote power lock is available.
For towing, you can get an available trailer package with a hitch and 7-pin connector along with a hitch guidance system to make hooking up a trailer much easier.
Also, there is GM’s well known G80 locking rear differential available in most models.
Finally, heated front driver/passenger seats and a heated steering wheel are standard on Z71 and ZR2 while available on the LT.
The bottom line
This is a no-brainer addition for the Chevy Colorado to drum up consumer interest in the older truck while waiting for a new model to come out. Expect a new model to debut for the 2023 model year, and until then, look for incentives and rebates on existing Chevy Colorado models to clear dealers lots.
